Ghuman named Director of Law and Governance – Monitoring Officer at Slough
Slough Borough Council has appointed Sukhdave Ghuman as Director of Law and Governance – Monitoring Officer.
He takes over the role with effect from 7 May 2024, replacing Stephen Taylor, who has served as monitoring officer on a part-time basis since 7 May 2022.
Ghuman has been Service Director for Law and Governance & Chief Monitoring Officer at Barnsley Council since July 2022. Before Barnsley, he held Head of Legal Services roles at Oxfordshire County Council, Cherwell District Council and Tameside Council.
He was appointed Director of Law and Governance – Monitoring Officer at Slough by the Commissioners sent into the local authority by the Government.
A report to council earlier this year noted: “Whilst the decision to designate an officer as the Monitoring Officer is normally a decision for full council, the power to appoint and dismiss the three statutory governance officers is covered by the DLUHC statutory direction.
“Mr Ghuman was interviewed by members of the Appointments Committee and this committee made a recommendation to the Commissioners that he be appointed to the role of Director of Law and Governance – Monitoring Officer.”
