Top local government QC joins Exchange Chambers as door tenant

A leading local government silk has joined North of England set Exchange Chambers as a door tenant.

Rhodri Williams QC is recognised for his expertise in public procurement and public and administrative law as well as in local government.

Along with other members of Exchange Chambers (Mark Cawson QC and David Mohyuddin), he successfully defended Leeds City Council in a high-profile £43.5m claim brought by Montpellier Estates.

The property developer had alleged deceit and breaches of the public procurement rules by the local authority in a dispute over the building of a new arena in the city. However, the claim was rejected by Mr Justice Supperstone, who recently awarded Leeds £2m in interim costs.

Williams has represented a range of local authorities, the Welsh Assembly Government, government departments and the Environment Agency.

In 2000, he was appointed to the Attorney General’s list of approved Counsel and to the list of the Counsel General to the National Assembly for Wales. He was called to the Bar in Northern Ireland in 2009.
