Five lords justices designated to hear appeals arising out of Jackson reforms

The Master of the Rolls has designated five judges to hear appeals to the Court of Appeal arising out of the Jackson Review reforms.

Lord Dyson said the judges would be himself, Lord Justice Stephen Richards (Deputy Head of Civil Justice), and Lord Justices Jackson, Davis and Lewison.

At least one of the group will be on the bench for all appeals arising from the reforms to the civil litigation costs regime.

The announcement implements recommendation 87 of Lord Justice Jackson’s final report, which urged the appointment of two Lord Justices to consider issues concerning the interpretation or application of the Civil Procedure Rules arising from the reforms.

Lord Justice Jackson had recommended the appointment of two Lord Justices. However, five have been appointed “to allow for flexibility of listing”.
