Sharpe Pritchard advises city council on procurement of energy from waste facility contract

Law firm Sharpe Pritchard has advised Stoke-on-Trent City Council in procuring a contract for an energy from waste facility in Hanford.
The contract, signed on 18 March, is set to go live on 1 April, 2025, marking the culmination of over two years’work.
Sharpe Pritchard advised the council throughout the procurement, which was undertaken using the competitive dialogue process.
Senior Partner Justin Mendelle said: “We are delighted to have successfully advised Stoke-on-Trent City Council on their procurement of an operator for their Energy from Waste Facility in Hanford. Using the competitive dialogue procedure, the council was able to rigorously test the market and identify a solution that will provide considerable benefits to the council and its residents over the next five years.”
Carol Gibbs, Corporate Director for Housing, Regulations and Operations at Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: “It is imperative to have the right guidance and support when going through such a rigorous procurement phase. This contract aligns with the goals set out in Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Corporate Strategy 2024-2028 – Our City, Our Well Being and its Energy Strategy 2023 -2033.
