SRA unveils further changes as 2013 PC renewals round kicks off

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has announced further changes to applications for a practising certificate, aimed at reducing issues users experienced during the 2012 renewals process.

The closing date for this year’s round is 31 October.

The changes include:

  • Revised guidance text;
  • The ability for Authorised Signatories (AUSs) and Organisation Contacts (ORCs) to add manager posts for certain individuals;
  • Pre-population of the client money section; and
  • A more user-friendly approach to updating address information in mySRA, providing a distinction between work and personal addresses.

Rachel Lewis, SRA Authorisation Manager, said: "While the changes will not be as visible as in 2012, we have prioritised those that will have the greatest impact. Some of the changes may appear relatively minor or behind the scenes, but their effect is significant."

The SRA said a range of support measures had been put in place to support those completing applications. These include: provision of detailed guidance for authorised signatories and organisation contacts completing bulk renewals; a readiness checklist; updated user guides; FAQs; and revised web content.
