NW council to hire legal apprentices for property and civil litigation teams

Oldham Council has unveiled plans to hire apprentices for the property and civil litigation teams in its legal department.

The apprentice in the property team will follow the Advanced Apprenticeship in Legal Services, which provides training in land law, contract and conveyancing.

The apprentice in the civil litigation team will meanwhile follow the debt recovery and insolvency pathway of the Higher Apprenticeship in Legal Services. This trains apprentices in contract law, personal and corporate insolvency.

CILEx Law School – part of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives – will deliver the training for both.

Nicola Goodman, CILEx Law School Learning and Development Manager, said: “It is good to see employers like Oldham Council taking advantage of these legal apprenticeship schemes to recruit local young talent and give them job opportunities. I look forward to teaching the two recruits when they join the council in September.”

News of Oldham’s recruitment campaign came during National Apprenticeships Week.

As part of this the Government announced legal apprenticeships would be standardised as part of the second phase of its ‘Trailblazers’ scheme.
