Criminal law specialist elected Deputy Vice President of Law Society

A solicitor advocate and specialist in criminal law, Joe Egan, has been elected deputy vice president of the Law Society.

The appointment means that Egan, who is based in Bolton, is set to be president at Chancery Lane in 2017/18.

He will take up the DVP role in July, when Jonathan Smithers steps up to president and Robert Bourns becomes vice president.

Egan said: “I look forward to making a contribution to the work of meeting the expectations of solicitors and I feel fortunate to take on this role at a time when the Law Society is seeking input from the people whose views are of crucial importance to our future direction - our members. Establishing a clear purpose will enhance the Society's ability to support, promote and represent solicitors."

Chancery Lane recently launched a “2010 discussion”, involving conversations with solicitors to establish how the membership organisation can best support their practices and the profession.
