Shadow authorities for new Northamptonshire unitaries name prospective directors of legal

The two shadow authorities for the new Northamptonshire unitaries have named the recommended candidates for the roles of director of legal.

The senior appointments committee for West Northamptonshire shadow authority has recommended that Catherine Whitehead is appointed to the role of Director of Legal and Democratic Services and Statutory Monitoring Officer.

Whitehead has most recently been the Head of Democratic, Legal and Policy/ Monitoring Officer for Wycombe District Council (now subsumed into Buckinghamshire Council).

“She is a highly experienced lawyer who has operated at senior board level for over 15 years. She has successfully advised and delivered on unitary transition and transformation,” West Northamptonshire shadow authority said.

The shadow authority will meet to consider the formal approval of Whitehead and three other key appointments on Tuesday (15 September).

The senior appointments committee for North Northamptonshire has meanwhile recommended that Adele Wylie be appointed to the role of Director of Legal and Democratic Services and Statutory Monitoring Officer.

Wylie is currently the Director of Governance & Regulatory Services and Monitoring Officer for Melton Borough Council.

“She brings a wide range of management and leadership experience, as well as playing a lead role in transforming services,” North Northamptonshire said.

Wylie’s appointment and those of other key officers will be considered by the shadow authority at its meeting on 17 September.

The eight existing councils in Northamptonshire will be disbanded and two new unitary councils will come into being from 1 April 2021.
