Lady Justice Rose to become Supreme Court justice

Lady Justice Rose, who has been a Court of Appeal judge since January 2019, will join the Supreme Court as a Justice next month.

Her appointment follows the retirement of Lady Justice Black in January.

Dame Vivien's previous judicial appointments included:

• Fee-paid Chairman of the Competition Appeal Tribunal (2006)
• Recorder in the criminal jurisdiction, South Eastern circuit (2010)
• High Court judge - Chancery Division (2013)
• President of the Upper Tribunal (Tax and Chancery Chamber): 2015 and 2018

Prior to joining the judiciary she worked in roles for the Government Legal Service, the Ministry of Defence and the Office of Counsel to the Speaker of the House of Commons. She also spent ten years in practice at Monckton Chambers.

The Queen made the appointment on the advice of the Prime Minister and Lord Chancellor, following the recommendations of an independent selection commission.
