LLG calls for council legal teams to take part in its first national work experience week

Lawyers in Local Government is calling for local authority legal teams to be involved in a remote national work experience program in July.

The week is part of its new national initiative to promote legal careers in local government.

LLG chief executive Deborah Evans said: “2020 hit graduates hard. Career options shrank and work placements vanished. As local authorities grappled with unprecedented change, there was a hesitancy to recruit inexperienced people into a virtual world - how could a graduate learn the job in the splendid isolation of remote working?”

She said graduates who take part will experience first hand the varied day to day life of a lawyer within a local authority, "along with a dynamic program of webinars, animated roundtables and lively workshops, giving a full flavour of just how rewarding a career in local government can be.

“Demonstrating our commitment to being truly inclusive, our work experience week will be diverse, vibrant and exciting - showcasing role model lawyers from all backgrounds to inspire graduates that this is a career in which they can flourish.”

Evans said LLG would help local authority legal teams make virtual work experience rewarding, and overcome fears around virtual supervision. “Together we can open the door for graduates once more. What are you waiting for?”

Local authority legal teams are asked to email Daria Porwisz (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if their council can take part, setting out how many students they can accommodate.
