The 2023 South West & Wales Air Quality Conference

The 2023 South West and Wales Air Quality Conference

The Air Quality News team are proud to announce we are hosting our inaugural South West and Wales Air Quality Conference, to be held at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel in Bristol on June 21st.

This event will bring together key policymakers in local authorities, as well as academia, and environmentally focused private companies, to hear from our expert speakers to see how we can tackle air quality in the regions.

THE FINAL SPEAKER LINE UP CONFIRMED

Robert Llewellyn – Fully Charged

Robert Llewellyn is a British actor, presenter and writer, famous for his thirty-year stretch as the rubber-masked mechanoid Kryten in the much-loved science fiction comedy, ‘Red Dwarf’. Robert then turned his hand to presenting the long-running TV gameshow, ‘Scrapheap Challenge’ and also ‘How Do They Do It?’ and ‘Carpool’.

In 2010, after being blown away by early Electric Cars, Robert launched Fully Charged, a YouTube channel focussing on the future of electric vehicles, of all shapes and sizes, and clean energy. Fully Charged has exceeded 55 million views around the world and Robert was recently acknowledged as ‘Tech Legend’ at the T3 Awards.

Tessa Bartholomew-Good, Campaign Lead – Global Action Plan

Tessa Bartholomew-Good is Campaign Lead at environmental charity Global Action Plan, currently leading the UK’s largest campaign on air pollution, Clean Air Day. She is a behaviour and system change specialist, passionate about intersection of human and planet health. Before coming to Global Action Plan, Tessa worked for Public Health England (now Dept of Health) leading the strategy, insights and evaluation for the largest health behaviour change campaigns and programmes in the UK. Before working in government, Tessa worked in a range of organisations, starting at Google launching their AR technology Google Glass in Europe, then entering the social purpose sector working as a Strategy Consultant at CSR consultancy, Good Business.

Professor Enda Hayes, Air Quality & Carbon Management – UWE Bristol

Professor Enda Hayes has been working in the environmental field for over a decade with a primary focus on atmospheric emissions and their management including odour, bioaerosols, traditional air quality pollutants (e.g. particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, ozone) and greenhouse gases.

He has worked with local, national and international governments on a range of air quality and carbon management projects including Defra and the Devolved Administrations, the South African government, Irish Environmental Protection Agency, the European Environment Agency and the European Commission.

Cllr Don Alexander – Bristol City Council

Cllr Alexander leads on delivering the Mayor of Bristol’s vision for the city’s transport network, including supporting the development of a regional plan for a mass transit system, overseeing a £1.783m investment in post-COVID-19 walking and cycling upgrades as well as supporting the decarbonising of the city’s transport systems

Joseph Carter – Asthma & Lung UK

Joseph Carter is the Head of Asthma + Lung UK Cymru, the organisation supporting 1 in 5 people living with lung conditions. Their vision is for a world where everyone has healthy lungs. A world where lung health is prioritised through better understanding, research, treatment and support. They are dedicated to helping create a world where good lung health and the ability to breathe freely are a basic right enjoyed by all.

He is a passionate environmental campaigner chairing Healthy Air Cymru, to campaign for tougher action on air pollution in Wales. He is keen cyclist and encourages others to embrace active travel to reduce their carbon footprint.

Dr Phillip Webb – Respiratory Innovation Wales

Dr Phillip Webb is an experienced healthcare professional with extensive knowledge in academia, industry and public sector. With over 20 years’ experience within UK National Health Service in National commissioning, specialised services, regional cancer delivery, innovation and value-based healthcare.

Phil cares passionately about implementing good innovative design principles that make an impact on the world around us. Lived air quality is key in this context – Live better, breathe better, be better, is a key driver for Respiratory Innovation Wales. It’s also always about the people not the technology so he is also a keen advocate of user centric design. Both poor design thinking and a lack of user centric design has led to the precipice of where we now are with build and air quality environments – don’t you think it’s time for a change?
