There has been an increased focus recently on local authorities being encouraged to use compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) for a wide range of projects, from bringing single empty properties back into use to large-scale regeneration schemes. This course will break down the different stages of the CPO process, incorporating recent changes to the law and practice, and provide practical tips based on the speakers’ extensive experience. The course will include discussion of a number of real-life examples and will show delegates how a CPO is made by talking through a real case from start to successful conclusion. The speakers will also look at the issue of compensation and explain how the different elements can be calculated.

Target Audience

This course is intended for anyone with an interest in CPOs, from absolute beginners to those with some experience. For beginners, the speakers will explain the issues simply and highlight areas that can be tricky. For more experienced practitioners, this is an excellent opportunity to hear how the recent changes in law and practice will affect you and your work.
