Landlords are seeing rent arrears rise as well as radical changes to procedure, with the Coronavirus Act 2020 and amendments to the Civil Procedure Rules adding a whole new layer of complexity to even the simplest rent possession action. This workshop will cover:

• How to reactivate existing rent possession actions
• How to take new rent possession actions for both secure and assured tenancies with reference to new notices periods and additional information required
• Non-statutory guidance from MHCLG for social landlords and guidance from tenants’ advisers
• The impact of the new arrangements for directions and possession hearings, priority listings and block listings
• The impact of consent orders in housing and homelessness applications
• The changes to possession proceedings in the private sector and their implications for social landlords and homelessness including the new prescribed forms and defence forms to accelerated possession proceedings, MHCLG guidance and the Private Landlords Association guidance

By the end of this workshop legal advisers and housing practitioners will be able to offer their rents teams advice on the different options available when pursuing rent arrears during and after the Covid-19 pandemic, and advice on methods of moderating the flow of evictions and homelessness applications.

The workshop will be delivered across two mornings, a week apart, both consisting of two one-hour interactive sessions. Delivered by experienced housing solicitor, consultant and trainer Emily Gasson, the course will provide the opportunity for attendees to engage with the speaker and with each other, share experience, ask questions, and participate in discussion.
