Speaker Steve Morris
Covert surveillance by public bodies in Scotland is regulated by the Regulation of Investigatory Powers (Scotland) Act 2000 (RIPSA). The RIPSA codes of practice contain specific guidance about surveillance involving social media and online research, as well as sections about employee surveillance, noise monitoring, drones and other new technologies.
This practical workshop examines the RIPSA codes, roles, processes and forms in detail. We also discuss the rising use of social media as a surveillance tool and provide guidance on lawful and effective research, together with appropriate oversight and governance.
