Dr. Joanna North is a Chartered Psychologist and member of the British Psychological Society (overseen by the Health Professions Council), and a Child & Family Psychotherapist and accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (overseen by the Professional Standards Authority).
She has over twenty years experience and work with complex cases involving children, adults and families, and is Director of Joanna North Associates Ltd – a therapeutic consultancy engaging in therapeutic work and training.
She runs a clinical caseload, currently working with Looked After Children within the Child Protection System, and trains care staff to support children with complex behavioural difficulties, and clinically supervises teams who work with children in the care system.
As an Expert Witness for the Family Courts she undertakes Report Writing and Assessment of Family Therapy Needs and Attachment Styles for both Adults and Children, and with her knowledge base and experience as an ‘Outstanding’ rated OFSTED Post-Adoption Support Agency she is able to advise on the complex decisions often required around placement, including long term fostering and adoption.
A frequent contributor to professional journals, Dr. North’s first book entitled ‘How to think about caring for a child with Difficult Behaviour' was published in 2010. Her latest book ‘Mindful Therapeutic Care for Children – A Guide to Reflective Practice’ will be published by Jessica Kingsley Publishing in September 2013.
