As we emerge from lockdown, what changes are on the horizon for residential property lawyers? Join us as we review two areas of forthcoming reform.

Programme

Down with the lease/licence! Long live the Occupation Contract!

The Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2014 now looks set to come into force in 2022. It represents the most significant reforms in residential housing/landlord & tenant law since the creation of the Assured Shorthold Tenancy. How will it work? Will England follow suit? Justin Bates gave evidence to the Welsh Assembly on the 2014 Act when it was just a Bill. Join us for an overview of the new regime and the likely problem areas.

This land is your land; this land is my land

The Law Commission has now finally reported on its proposed changes to residential leasehold law. The government has given an initial response and, in addition, is bringing forward its own proposals to restrict residential ground rents. But what precisely is likely to change? And when? Kimberley Ziya worked for the Law Commission on the reports and Rupert Cohen has been forced to read all the reports so you don’t have to.
