Housing Act 2004 & the Private Rented Sector – where are we now? - Cornerstone Barristers

Housing Act 2004 & the Private Rented Sector – where are we now? - Cornerstone Barristers

The Housing Act 2004 represented a seminal change in the management and policing by local housing authorities of conditions and standards in the private rented sector. This has been taken forward by the Housing and Planning Act 2016, the Building Safety Act 2022, and most recently by the Renters’ Rights Act 2025. In this webinar Andy Lane and Riccardo Calzavara will provide an overview of local authorities’ enforcement powers, forthcoming changes in the licensing regimes, and the impact on related policies.

Andy’s primary practice is in the Social Housing field but he also frequently advises and represents local authorities in dealing with Part 1 Housing Act 2004 matters as well as licensing issues under Parts 2 and 3. Riccardo enjoys a busy Property, Housing, Public Law, and Planning practice which frequently takes him to the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) and the Court of Appeal.
