Expansion sees 39 Essex Street look to move premises in 2015

Thirty Nine Essex Street Chambers, which has some 123 barristers and 40 staff, is to move to new premises in the summer of 2015.

The set will leave its existing premises at 39 Essex Street to a newly developed building at 81 Chancery Lane.

The move follows a period of expansion at the chambers, which welcomed 25 members of 4–5 Gray’s Inn Square in late 2012.

Chief Executive and Director of Clerking, David Barnes, said: "We have outgrown our offices at 39 Essex Street and have been looking for the right premises in which to house all of our barristers and we are thrilled to have agreed terms with Deerbrook on the development of 81 Chancery Lane.”

Joint Head of Chambers Stephen Tromans QC added: “The last couple of years have been a time of significant and targeted growth for Chambers, which has been very successful, but has meant members and support staff being divided between three buildings. In addition, we recognise that a step change is needed in our facilities and infrastructure for client conferences, seminars and video-conferencing. 81 Chancery Lane will meet these needs. It will also provide an opportunity to reassess how we work and what facilities and support our barristers need.”
