Law firm wins £5.9m contract to advise two London boroughs

Law firm Ashfords has been awarded a contract potentially worth nearly £6m to advise the London boroughs of Wandsworth and Richmond-upon-Thames.

In June 2015 Wandsworth sought expressions of interest to advise on:

  • Litigation related services; and
  • Planning, Highways, Contracts and General (PHCG).

The term of the proposed contract is five years to commence in April 2016, with an option to extend for a further period or periods of up to three years subject to mutual agreement of both parties.

The pre-tender estimate for the value of the contract over the initial term of five years and the potential extension period of three years was £6.8m.

The final value based on Ashfords' bid was £5.9m, with the litigation lot estimated to be worth £3.06m over the eight years and the PHCG lot valued at £2.84m.

The contract was awarded on the basis of the most economically advantageous tender in terms of price (weighting 80) and quality (weighting 20).

At the same time as it started the procurement exercise last year, Wandsworth confirmed that it was in discussions with the South London Legal Partnership (of which Richmond is a member) about merging their legal teams.
