Greenwich Council chooses Bevan Brittan to advise on housing delivery plan

The Royal Borough of Greenwich has appointed law firm Bevan Brittan as its preferred external legal partner to help deliver its aim of building more new council homes.

Greenwich’s corporate plan includes proposals to “radically increase the pace and quantum of housing delivery in the Borough” by building new 750 council homes – linking with the Mayor of London’s ‘Building Council Homes for Londoners’ programme.

Following a tender process, Bevan Brittan has been appointed to carry out all legal work relating to the housing delivery proposals.

This is likely to include property development, construction and build contracts, planning, procurement, conveyancing, state aid, corporate governance/vires, advice on relevant taxes, compulsory purchase orders and Right to Buy.

The appointment is expected to be for a minimum of two years.

Bevan Brittan Head of Property Mark Calverley said: “We are pleased that we will be supporting the Royal Borough of Greenwich in its plan to take a primary role in directly delivering new council homes. Bevan Brittan multi disciplinary teams will be providing a range of advice to ensure that the housing programme is backed by the necessary capacity, legal expertise and finance.”
