Council secures interim injunction in High Court over creation of extra plots for caravans

Guildford Borough Council has secured an interim injunction in the High Court after the owner of a site in Seale created more plots for caravans than they had planning permission for.

The local authority said the owner of the site had created an extra two plots for additional caravans. They have permission for four plots.

It added that the owner also appeared to have sold off a large part of the site where a hardstanding surface had been laid and touring caravans and a stationary caravan had been brought onto the land.

The interim injunction means that the offenders will not be allowed to have any further caravans, mobile homes or other forms of residential accommodation stationed on the land and it can only be used for residential purposes for those who live there.

No further unauthorised development is allowed to take place and no hardstanding material or other building materials are to be brought onto the land for purposes other than agriculture.

Cllr Caroline Reeves, Lead Councillor for Housing and Development Control at Guildford, said: "We are really pleased with the decision from the High Court to stop any further caravans or unauthorised development occurring on the land without the benefit of planning permission. This is completely unacceptable, and we will not tolerate this sort of behaviour.

“We share the views of our residents who are concerned about the unauthorised activities taking place on this site and will continue to use our enforcement powers to tackle these environmental issues."

Cllr Reeves added: "We hope that the interim injunction has the desired effect. Planning permission is an important process which protects our land and ensures developments are safe."
