The Law Society, LawCare, The Solicitors’ Charity and the Mindful Business Charter have launched a new Solicitor Wellbeing Alliance for England and Wales aimed at improving mental health and wellbeing across the profession.

The four organisations said the aim is to provide a more coordinated approach to wellbeing support, helping solicitors and firms access existing resources, guidance and services.

The Alliance will:

  • Make it easier for solicitors and firms to find and access the right support by improving awareness and signposting between organisations
  • Work together on shared priorities, focusing on what the four organisations can achieve together that they couldn’t do alone
  • Share insight on trends and emerging issues affecting solicitor wellbeing
  • Provide a unified voice and identify opportunities to positively influence organisational culture and working practices.

LawCare’s Life in the Law 2025 research found that half of respondents had experienced anxiety over the last 12 months.

Three in five had poor mental wellbeing and around two in five (43.4%) said their mental health and wellbeing was significantly influenced by work.

Law Society of England and Wales president, Mark Evans, said: “Solicitors face significant wellbeing challenges and no single organisation can tackle them alone. By joining forces, we can raise awareness of the support already available, share expertise and help drive healthier workplace cultures across the profession.

“The Alliance brings together organisations with a shared goal: ensuring solicitors can access the support they need to thrive.

“Over the coming year, Alliance members will work together to develop and deliver practical outputs that improve awareness of support, share learning and help solicitors and legal organisations take positive action on wellbeing.”
