Geldards snaps up niche public sector law firm TPP Law

National law firm Geldards has acquired the business and assets of niche practice TPP Law as part of a plan to build its public services offering.

The move will see TPP Law managing director Mark Johnson, who founded the firm 12 years ago, join Geldards as a partner. Owen Willcox and Peter Hill, senior associates at TPP Law, join the firm as associates.

The deal will hand Geldards a London office. It currently has bases in Nottingham, Derby and Cardiff.

Geldards’ chief executive, Jeff Pearson, said: “The acquisition of TPP Law is part of our strategic plan to build on our existing strengths in public sector work and to expand this into a wider public services offering for both public authorities and the growing number of companies and charities active in public services markets.”

Mark Johnson said joining Geldards would enable the team at TPP Law to offer greater strength in depth to their public, private and third sector clients across England.

“We are very excited at the prospect of growing a new national powerhouse to serve the growing public services market,” he added.

David Williams, Geldards’ chairman, said: “TPP Law’s specialist focus and London presence will help us to develop our client base in the South East and further build on our innovative partnership with Kent Legal Services under our Law:Public brand which won the Financial Times Innovation Award this year.”

The TPP Law trading name is to be retained for an interim period.
