Cornwall compensates autistic former pupil for "educational neglect"

A 21-year-old man has agreed to accept £165,000 in compensation and costs from Cornwall Council in an out-of-court settlement after claiming that he suffered educational neglect.
BBC Radio Cornwall has reported that Andrew Evans claimed he received an inadequate education while a pupil at Fowey Primary School.
Mr Evans is on the autistic spectrum and was given a special educational needs and disability statement, which he alleged was not acted upon between 2006-07.
Cornwall Council said it did not comment on individual cases. A statement added: “If a parent or carer raises concerns with us, those concerns will be thoroughly investigated and discussed with the family.
“We have recently undertaken a review of provision and special educational needs assessment and support and we have a children and young people’s autism strategy that sets out priorities and how they are being addressed.”
