A zero sum game?

The number of SEND tribunal cases is rising and the proportion of appeals ‘lost’ by local authorities is at a record high. Lottie Winson talks to education lawyers to understand the reasons why, and sets out the results of Local Government Lawyer’s exclusive survey.

Largest further education provider in London to appoint law firm to £1m contract

The largest further education provider in London, Capital City College Group (CCCG), is to appoint a legal services provider to a £1m, four-year contract.

CCCG, which is also the third largest further education provider in the UK, runs three colleges – City and Islington College, Westminster Kingsway College and the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London – and a training arm delivering apprenticeships and courses for employers, Capital City College Training.

CCCG said the chosen provider would supply “a full range of professional legal services as may be required by a busy Further Education College”.

It added: “CCCG would like to appoint one organisation for the provision of legal services (which will operate on a call off basis) but reserves the right to make multiple awards (by specialism) where best value can be achieved.”

The contract is due to last for 48 months from the commencement date, with 24 initial months and an option to extend 2x12 months.
