Electoral registration officer rejects objection to Reform candidate nomination for mayoral election

The electoral registration officer at North Kesteven District Council has dismissed a challenge to Reform UK candidate Dame Andrea Jenkyns' eligibility to stand in the forthcoming Greater Lincolnshire mayoral election.

A hearing was held on Friday to consider the objection, which centred on the address she used to register as a candidate.

According to a report from the BBC, the objection argued that Dame Andrea's main address was in Yorkshire, disqualifying her from running in the county.

The report noted that Dame Andrea splits her time between an address in Yorkshire, where her son lives, and an address in Lincolnshire.

Candidates running in mayoral elections must have lived within the combined authority area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of their nomination, guidance from the Electoral Commission sets out.

Candidates are also eligible if they have worked within the combined county authority area or if they have owned or rented land in the area over the last year.

At the hearing on Friday, the electoral registration officer concluded Dame Andrea was entitled to stay on the roll after finding no evidence that she was ineligible to register under her Lincolnshire address.
