Social landlord recovers 12 homes in 2022-23 financial year

Social landlord Network Homes has revealed that it successfully recovered 12 homes as part of an “ongoing crackdown on tenancy fraudsters” in the 2022-23 financial year.

Network Homes added that “legal action is set to follow on a number of further cases despite court backlogs caused by the Covid-19 pandemic”.

Recent successes include catching an offender who was “unlawfully subletting more than one home and was doing this through an estate agent”, said the landlord.

Network Homes also secured an unlawful profit order of £2,000 against an offender who was illegally subletting, by renting out the home while they lived somewhere else.

An unlawful profit order requires an offender to pay the landlord an amount that represents the profit made from illegally subletting.

As a result of the recovery of homes, 16 people entitled to housing have been provided with social homes, said the landlord.

Dillon Darbar, Network Homes Counter Fraud Manager said: “We owe it to honest people who are in need of housing that we’re doing all we can to protect and provide social homes to those who require it the most.

“We remain undeterred in our fight against tenancy fraud and continue working closely with our partners to bring offenders to account.”
