Nplaw secures approval to offer 12-month pupillage

Public sector legal practice nplaw has received Bar Standards Board approval to offer a 12-month pupillage.

The pupillage will be offered in collaboration with Doughty Street Chambers, the London public law chambers, and Norwich’s Octagon Legal.

Victoria McNeill, nplaw’s Practice Director, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to offer pupillage. In time it will really strengthen the range of legal services we offer to our public and non-profit sector clients.

“Getting Bar Council approval for training would not have been possible without our partnership with Doughty Street Chambers in London and Octagon Chambers in Norwich. They will be providing experienced supervision, as well as secondment opportunities, so this really is a unique opportunity for a candidate with an interest in public law and local government.”

McNeill added: “We are already providing training contracts for solicitors, and support for staff undertaking CILEX qualifications, so we see this as a further innovation which will strengthen nplaw, enhancing our advocacy function while providing a local career development opportunity.”

Details of the pupillage, which will begin next month, are on the Bar Council’s online Pupillage Gateway.

Applications for the pupillage must be made by Friday, 14 August. Interviews will be held during the week of 24 August.

The pupillage will be offered on the basis of:

  • Academic achievement;
  • Experience in and commitment to practising in the areas of law undertaken by nplaw;
  • Experience of and commitment to working in local government;
  • Ability to understand client needs and meet these needs with a demonstrable commitment to providing excellent levels of service to nplaw’s clients.

The successful candidate will be paid an annual salary of £20,253-£22,212 and be based at nplaw’s office at Norfolk County Council.
