Norfolk names director of legal services as interim chief executive
- Details
Norfolk County Council has appointed Kat Hulatt, its director of legal services and monitoring officer, as interim chief executive following the departure of Tom McCabe last month.
Hulatt has worked at Norfolk for five and a half years, having previously been head of legal services at Milton Keynes Council. She takes on the top officer role while the county council recruits a permanent successor, with the post currently being advertised.
Council leader Cllr David Bick said: "We have appointed Kat Hulatt as our interim chief executive. I have every confidence that Kat will help us to deliver our agenda in the next few months, until we have recruited to the permanent position."
The appointment follows the resignation of McCabe, who left in late June after seven and a half years as Norfolk's most senior officer. He had been the council's head of paid service since December 2018 and chief executive since June 2023, having previously served as executive director of community and environmental services.
McCabe's departure came just weeks after Reform UK took control of County Hall at May's local elections, ending a long period of Conservative control.
