Eden District Council names Neal as Director of Governance

Eden District Council has appointed Matthew Neal as its new Director of Governance and Monitoring Officer.

Neal will join Eden’s management team on 27 June 2016. He will move from South Lakeland District Council, where he is the Solicitor and Deputy Monitoring Officer.

Eden District Council’s Chief Executive, Dr Robin Hooper, said: “The recruitment process for our Senior Officer vacancy has been very successful and attracted a high calibre of candidates.

“We are delighted therefore to welcome Matthew to Eden and I am sure Members and my fellow officers will look forward to helping him settle into his new role in the weeks ahead.”

Neal, who moved to Cumbria in 2003 from the Wirral, said: “I am very pleased to have been appointed and am looking forward to starting my new role. I am confident that the experience that I have had at South Lakeland, managing a busy Legal Service, and working with colleagues on a wide range of projects which cut across various professional disciplines has given me a solid grounding for the challenges which lie ahead for Eden.”

Dr Robin Hooper added: “This is a demanding time for local government as the way we fund and deliver services is evolving. The skills and experience of the Council’s existing Members and officers, plus our new director will help Eden to adapt and deliver these changes in the months ahead.”
