LLG Board recommends extending Forrester-Brown presidency by six months

The Board of Lawyers in Local Government (LLG) is to recommend that Doreen Forrester-Brown continue as President for an additional six months to enable her to see through the organisation’s governance review.

The recommendation will be put to LLG’s AGM at the Weekend School, which is taking place at Warwick University on 31 March and 1 April.

The Board will also recommend the following appointments:

  • Suki Binjal becomes Vice President and takes over from Forrester-Brown in October 2017. It is anticipated that Binjal will retain the President’s role for 18 months, subject to the AGM in 2018. She will continue with the governance review and work with the Board to implement the recommendations. In addition, Binjal will continue with the LLG's ambition to develop and support its members as ‘21st Century Public Sector Lawyers’.
  • Phillip Horsfield becomes Deputy Vice President, assuming the Vice President role in October 2017 with the intention of occupying the Presidency in 2019.
  • Following an open competitive process, Quentin Baker becomes second Deputy Vice President assuming sole duties in October 2017. LLG said it was “particularly delighted to welcome Quentin as a new addition to the Executive Board subject to the AGM resolution”.

Forrester-Brown, Director of Law and Democracy at Southwark Council, said: “I am humbled and honoured that the Board have recommended to the membership that I continue the Presidency for a further six months to see through the governance review.

“When I took office in 2016, I made a commitment to review the governance arrangements for LLG to ensure they were open, transparent, inclusive and provided value for money for our members. I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to see the review to its conclusion. I would like to thank Southwark and my team for their continued support together with the board and membership of LLG.”
