Anthony Collins hires experienced city council lawyer for housing management team

Hilary Homfray, a solicitor who has worked for Birmingham City Council for the last 14 years, has joined Anthony Collins Solicitors as an associate in its housing management team.

During her time at Birmingham, Homfray gained experience across a broad spectrum of housing law, including possession claims, allocations policies, succession claims, injunctions, disrepair, and nuisance.

She has dealt with cases concerning disability discrimination where the Equality Act 2010 and the European Convention on Human Rights have been engaged.

She also has a keen interest in homelessness law and homelessness prevention work and was involved in defending the council in R (Edwards) v Birmingham CC [2016] EWHC 173 (Admin); [2016] HLR 11, where it was found that the local authority’s homelessness function did not contain the systemic gatekeeping practices alleged.

For the last nine months, Homfray was Senior Solicitor within the Equal Pay Team at Birmingham, which involved managing a team of 12 and dealing with a very large number of claims.

Homfray said she was “delighted” to have joined Anthony Collins. She added: “Housing law has always been a passion of mine and ACS, being one of the top law firms supporting social housing providers, seemed the logical place to be in order to further my career. I am now taking a step back from the litigation side of housing and stepping into the world of housing management.”
