Council legal team completes LEXCEL re-assessment remotely during lockdown

Nplaw, the shared legal service hosted by Norfolk County Council, has successfully completed its Lexcel reassessment remotely after the formal reassessment process – due in April - was cancelled as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Abdus Choudhury, practice director at nplaw, said that the Lexcel assessor had offered to undertake the re-assessment later in the year but said that the practice felt confident that its recording methodology for compliance against the standard meant that the assessment could be carried out remotely.

The LEXCEL assessor was able to review compliance against LEXCEL standard through telephone meetings with key personnel and provided with key information on a random sample of appropriately redacted files to further assess whether nplaw continued to meet the LEXCEL standard.

“The outcome was a clean bill of health with no follow up actions for nplaw and demonstration that even in these unusual times; with a bit of flexibility it is possible to pass that thing which we all dread, an audit,” Choudhury said.
