Rowley named Housing and Planning Minister as government appointments continue

Lee Rowley has been named Housing and Planning Minister as the latest appointments are made to Liz Truss’ government.

In relation to Rowley's appointment Simon Clarke, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC), tweeted today: “It’s excellent @Lee4NED is the new Housing Minister @luhc. Lee is a huge intellect, a great friend and is keenly committed to building the homes we need.”

Rowley was previously Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Government Whip, Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury between 17 September 2021 and 6 July 2022. He is MP for North East Derbyshire.

Rowley tweeted: “Delighted to join @SimonClarkeMP & @luhc as Housing & Planning Minister - a big job ahead to further help raise standards & service across the sector, to improve how planning works for local communities and, vitally, to empower more people achieve their dream of home ownership.”

Andrew Stephenson MP has meanwhile been named a minister at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), while Baroness (Jane) Scott has been appointed as the DLUHC minister in the House of Lords.

Clarke tweeted: “Couldn’t be more delighted that @Andrew4Pendle is joining our ministerial team @luhc - one of the most reliable, effective people in Parliament with a great track record of delivery.”

In relation to Baroness Scott, the Secretary of State said: “Jane has given decades of service to local government and will bring great insight and experience to a vital role.”

The other two ministers in DLUHC are Paul Scully, Minister of State since July 2022, and Dehenna Davison, who was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State earlier this month.
