PM appoints Rachel Maclean as sixth Housing Minister in 12 months

Rachel Maclean has been appointed as Minister of State for Housing and Planning, becoming the sixth Housing Minister in 12 months and the 14th in a decade.

She replaces Lucy Frazer who spent just three months in the post at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, before becoming the new Culture Secretary in a Cabinet reshuffle that took place yesterday (7 February).

Maclean was previously Minister of State at Ministry of Justice between 7 September and 28 October 2022.

The MP for Redditch has had a relatively short career in parliament having been elected in 2017.

In her five years at Westminster, she has also been Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Home Office, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport.

Commenting on her appointment, Maclean tweeted: “Delighted to be appointed as Minister in [the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities]. Looking forward to a new challenge, tackling one of the defining issues the government faces.”
