A local campaign group has applied for a Definitive Map Modification Order to try to require Cornwall Council to investigate the historic use of a disputed footpath.
The Glendorgal Coast Path Group decided to seek the order after fencing was erected blocking access to the pathway on Glendorgal Headland, where the Glendorgal Hotel is being redeveloped for 11 properties, the BBC has reportedthe BBC has reported.
In a campaign post the group said it was seeking volunteers with legal or planning knowledge and those with expertise in organising evidence and documents.
Group founder Matt Kennedy-Smith told the BBC: "No-one really understood [the closure] because it's always been a route people have taken, never needed permission.
“It's always been a historic route people have taken and then, for it to be gone, people became annoyed, angry, frustrated and not really knowing where to go with it."
St Austell and Newquay's Labour MP, Noah Law said he supported the campaign and said there was evidence of the pathway’s use back to “at least the reign of Queen Victoria”.
