Womble Bond Dickinson chosen to provide legal support for local delivery body for City Deal

Law firm Womble Bond Dickinson has been appointed to provide legal support to the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) under a contract worth between £500,000 and £5m.

GCP is the local delivery body for a City Deal with central Government. It is expected to bring investment, worth up to £1billion over 15 years, to deliver improvements in infrastructure, supporting and accelerating the creation of 44,000 new jobs, 33,500 new homes and 420 additional apprenticeships.

GCP is set to deliver major transport projects across the area over the next seven years and requires legal support to be appointed to support these schemes.

The objective of this work is to provide legal support to the GCP Programme of works that need to be delivered over the next four years (with a potential extension of one year).

The procurement was led by Cambridgeshire County Council.

It said the selected legal firm would need to have specialist skills in Transport and Words Act Orders, Compulsory Purchase Order, Rights of Way Orders, Planning and Procurement to provide the support required. “As set out there is a level of uncertainty about the amount of work that is required. Therefore a range of £500,000- £5,000,000 will be placed on this contract.”

Womble Bond Dickinson was appointed this month after further competition under CCS Framework RM6240 Public Sector Legal Services Lot 1a.

The contract is due to start on 1 December 2023 and end on 30 November 2027.
