County council hires first apprentices for legal services team

The in-house legal team at Essex County Council, Essex Legal Services, is to hire its first apprentices at intermediate and advanced levels.

One apprentice will follow the Intermediate Apprenticeship in Legal Administration, and the other will follow the Advanced Apprenticeship in Legal Services, working on civil litigation and property matters.

Both successful candidates will learn workplace skills by working through the competence units of their apprenticeship programmes as well as the academic elements of the training route.

Commenting on the Advanced Apprenticeship, Philip Thomson, Director for Essex Legal Services, said: “This excellent new apprenticeship scheme offered through CILEx is a very exciting opportunity to recruit a young person who hasn’t selected the traditional university route into law.”

The apprenticeship training will be delivered by CILEx Law School and the recruitment will be by Vision Apprentices.

Noel Inge, Managing Director of CILEx Law School said: “These apprenticeship schemes are ideal vehicles for local authorities to give real career opportunities to bright young people in their local area. The apprenticeship format allows training to be targeted to specific job roles so that the apprentices will quickly develop into valued contributors to the team.”
