Each webinar will offer approximately 39 minutes of in-depth analysis of carefully selected current planning and environment related issues, to include consideration of their practical significance for those involved in the process.

Episode 12: Noises and Smells

This webinar will provide a practical overview of the legal framework available to local authorities and others to tackle unwanted noises and smells. The speakers will discuss: 

  • Criminal law tools, including offences under the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990 – Rose Grogan
  • Civil law tools, namely claims for statutory nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 – Katherine Barnes

In addition to outlining the substantive law, the speakers will also draw from their experience in this specialist field to address related procedural and strategic issues.
