This webinar will cover how best to represent interested parties and interveners in judicial reviews and similar statutory challenges in the Administrative Court and the Planning Court.  It will be suitable for organisations who might find themselves in that position from time-to-time, including government bodies and agencies, local authorities, regulators, developers and operators, and public interest organisations.  The webinar will cover both strategic and tactical considerations and procedural matters, seeking to give practical tips on how you can participate effectively as an interested party or intervener to protect or promote your interests. 

First, Hereward Phillpot QC will consider a number of key practical and tactical issues for interested parties in judicial review type litigation, including:

• when and why interested parties should take an active role in proceedings
• procedure, costs and costs protection
• the duty of candour and its implications
• co-operation with the defendant:
• central government
• local government
• tactical considerations
• consent orders, quashing and re-determination

Secondly, Jasveer Randhawa of Herbert Smith Freehills will cover the role of an intervener in public law litigation and the practical considerations for those considering participation in proceedings through this route, including:

• the value interventions can add
• costs issues
• liaising with the parties and any other potential stakeholders
• procedural issues such as new evidence and timing
