Housing Conference Vol. II – 4pm 7 October 2021

Tackling Social Housing Fraud
Social housing is a limited commodity with huge pressures on its availability and the funds to manage it. Shelter estimates that there are 1.5m fewer social homes today that there were available in 1980. It is imperative that the stock that is available is allocated fairly and managed properly to ensure best use of the limited availability.
This session is intended to provide an overview of the issue of fraud in social housing. By the end of the evening attendees should have an idea of the shape of the main problem areas and be aware of the possible solutions in each case.
Injunctions Update: The Problem of Persons Unknown
Injunctions have long been an important tool in the armoury of local authorities and registered providers. Over the last five years, injunctions have been used with increasing frequency to tackle a range of problems caused by “Persons Unknown”.
That practice was brought to a halt earlier this year. This session will explain the ramifications of L B Barking & Dagenham v Persons Unknown [2021] EWHC 1201 and the scope for a change in the law in the impending appeal to the Court of Appeal.
