The legislation relating to the Acquisition of Communications Data has changed.
Chapter 2 of Part 1 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) has been replaced by the Investigatory Powers Act 2016.

This webinar details the key changes including the new roles and processes for acquiring communications data for the purposes of investigations. Our expert speaker will explain the new categories of data available, including entity data and event data.

The serious crime threshold is explained together with when it applies and how it relates to the category of data available for investigators.

The role of OCDA, the Office for Communications Data Authorisations will be discussed.

Reference will be made to the Communications Data Codes of Practice and the changed roles of designated persons who used to authorise acquisition under the repealed RIPA regime.

The role of the National Anti-Fraud Network (NAFN) as a SPOC for certain authorities is also explained.

This webinar is suitable for all those who may lawfully acquire communications data for the purposes of criminal investigations including trading standards officers, environmental health officers, fraud investigators and regulators.
