This webinar examines Part 2 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000(RIPA) focussing on Directed Surveillance. It examines the RIPA definition of Directed Surveillance so individuals can identify if an authorisation may or may not be required for specific activity.

The lawful grounds and authorisation process are examined together with advice and guidance in relation to completion of the required documentation by both applicant and authorising officer. Understanding and recording necessity proportionality and collateral intrusion are addressed, and the review, cancellation and renewal documentation and requirements are also detailed.

The webinar makes use of the relevant codes of practice, commissioner’s (IPCO) guidance and expectations and makes use of case law and judgements to highlight non compliance issues.

It also addresses the more recent focus by the commissioner’s in relation to the management of the product of directed surveillance (Data safeguards).

Testimonials

It would have been helpful if the Webinar had been a bit longer, 1 hour and a half to 2 hours to encourage more discussion.
