DWF - How to deliver a successful CMA (Subsidy Advice Unit) notification – lessons from the first year

This session will explore the lessons learned from the first year of completed notifications of proposed subsidies to the CMA. The DWF team has been responsible for many of the successfully completed notifications in that time, from the first case of English National Opera to the most recent Eden Project North. The session will consider all elements of approach including:

•  Cumulation questions and when other previous subsidies should be counted to apply the threshold
• Subsidy schemes and when and how to use the same to best effect
• Pre-referral discussions and timing
• Drafting SAU submissions and attention to detail on the Subsidy Control Principles
• Handling of confidentiality
