Watchdog urges ‘metro mayors’ to make Seven Principles of Public Life a cornerstone

The Committee on Standards in Public Life has written to the six ‘metro mayors’ calling on them to embed the Seven Principles of Public Life “as a driving force during their time in office”.

The CSPL said: “Since the metro mayors will be taking up newly-created public offices, it is particularly important that they show leadership in embedding the principles.”

The metro mayors have powers for strategic decision making across city regions with responsibility for more functions than under previous legislation, the watchdog noted.

The CSPL has previously published reports on how the seven principles apply to Police and Crime Commissioners (2015) and in local government (2017.

The standards watchdog has invited the six metro mayors to a roundtable to be held in October this year.
