DLUHC appoints new Levelling Up minister

Jacob Young has been appointed as Levelling Up Minister in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) following the resignation of Dehenna Davison.

Davison was appointed Levelling Up Minister in September 2022 but recently chose to step down due to debilitating migraines, which she said impacted her ability to carry out the role.

In a letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, she said: "Serving as Levelling Up Minister has been an immense privilege that I will forever remember."

She has previously stated she plans not to run in the next general election.

The incoming Levelling Up Minister, Young, will steward the DLUHC's handling of devolution deals, investment zones, planning casework and local growth funding, among other things.

Young, who took up the position on Monday (18 September), thanked Davison for her "dedication to delivering" the Government's levelling up agenda.

Young was previously Assistant Government Whip and is part of the cohort of new conservative MPs elected in the 2019 general election.

In a short comment on his appointment on X, Young said: "I am deeply honoured to have been appointed Levelling Up Minister and join the great team at @LUHC.

"Having worked in the department as a [Parliamentary Private Secretary] and Whip, I know from experience how dedicated they are in ensuring every corner of the UK sees the benefits of Levelling Up.
