Number of care applications made to Cafcass continues to break records

Cafcass has been receiving a record number of care applications in recent months, it has emerged.
Seven out of the nine months so far in the 2015/16 year (running from April 2015 to March 2016) have seen record totals for that individual month.
From April to December 2015 Cafcass received some 9,232 applications. This was 12% up on the previous record at the nine-month stage. The equivalent total for the same months in previous years was:
- 2014: 8,228;
- 2013: 7,921;
- 2012: 8,191;
- 2011: 7,543.
There were 1,092 applications last month, up 17% on the 931 made in December 2014. The record for a single month is 1,119, recorded in July last year.
