Property specialist becomes fifth High Court judge appointed in September

A fifth new High Court judge – real property law specialist Edwin Johnson QC – has been appointed this month.
His appointment will take effect from 1 October 2021. He is to be assigned to the Chancery Division.
A tenant at Maitland Chambers, Mr Johnson took silk in 2006 and was appointed a Deputy High Court Judge in 2017, sitting in the Business and Property Courts.
His appointment follows those earlier this month of:
- His Honour Judge Stephen Eyre QC
- Heather Williams QC
- Barry Cotter QC
- Andrew Ritchie QC
All four have been assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division.
The appointments fill vacancies in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements.
