Health and Safety Executive to procure £9m enforcement legal services panel

The Health and Safety Executive has launched the procurement of enforcement legal services worth up to £9m over three years.

The watchdog said the panel of solicitor agents would primarily support its regulatory work in England and Wales.

The agreement is expected to be for a fixed period of two years commencing on 1 November 2018, with the option for HSE to extend by agreement for a further year.

The HSE said that to be appointed to the panel, successful bidders would need to demonstrate a strong background of, in England and Wales: conducting criminal proceedings on behalf of the prosecution; conducting enforcement notice appeals and providing representation at inquests.

“Specific experience in the field of UK health and safety legislation is essential,” it added.

The panel has been divided into the following lots:

  • Yorkshire and North East Region
  • North West and North Wales Region
  • South Wales and South West Region
  • London Region
  • East and South West Region

Each lot is estimated to be worth up to £1.4m.
