Senior lawyers at universities win recognition in New Year's Honours List

Two senior lawyers at universities have received recognition in the New Year’s Honours List.

Carolyn Pike, Director of Legal Services at the University of Birmingham, received an OBE for services to higher education and the legal profession.

Bill Turner, Head of Governance and Legal Services at Nottingham Trent University, was meanwhile awarded an MBE for services to higher education.

Pike read law at Birmingham, qualified as a solicitor in 1985 and spent several years in private legal practice before returning to the University of Birmingham as an honorary lecturer.

She was appointed Director of Legal Services at the university in 1998 and was pivotal in the setting up of the Association of University Legal Practitioners 16 years ago.
